Directions

Along the N3 from Gauteng, the shortest route is to turn off at Warden, from where Verkykerskop is another  45km. One can get lost though in trying to get out of Warden finding the route to Verkykerskop. There are two gravel roads running from Warden in the direction of Verkykerskop; both are equally good (or bad), it’s a matter of choice:

• Approaching Warden on the N3 you go over the river bridge with the dam on your left, don’t take the first turn-off into Warden but go 1km further up to the Bethlehem road R714. Take that off-ramp and at the junction turn left. The rugby stadium is  now on your right and the town on your left and the  tar reverts to gravel. There is a sign that shows  Verkykerskop to the right. You can now choose to  go right, which road will take you without further turning until you are almost in Verkykerskop, where you must  turn left onto the tar road R722.

• Should you however go straight instead of right at  the above mentioned sign in Warden, you will also get to Verkykerskop but with a few turns. Going straight will  take you down the hill with the silos on your left. Go over the rail then through the drift and just carry on. About halfway to Verkykerskop you will get a T- junction where you turn left and after 500m you turn to the right again. About 5km before you  get to Verkykerskop you will get a junction again where you turn right then reaching Vkk.

On a rainy day or after heavy rains or if you have a low clearance vehicle it’s better to stay on the N3 past Warden. Just before Harrismith you take the  R722 to Verkykerskop for another 45km.

It will take you about three hours from Johannesburg to the farm. The distance from Sandton Square to the farm is exactly 274km.

From Durban, the road is quite easy: As you come  through Harrismith on the N3 you turn right onto  the R722.

Coming from Nelspruit, there are many options, all with lots of potholes and coal trucks, but the best  route is the N4 to Machadodorp, turn off to  Carolina and follow the R36 through Ermelo, take  the R39 to Standerdton, then the R546 to Vrede  that becomes the R34. At the T-junction turn left  onto the R103 that joins the N3 near Warden, and then as above.

From Bloemfontein, you may take the N1 north and  turn east on the N5 up to Bethlehem. If you want to take the shortest route, take the R26 north and after a few kms turn right onto the R714 to Warden, and  then as above. If you want to stay on the tar  however, stick to the N5 from Bethlehem to Harrismith, turn towards Johannesburg onto the  N3, and a few kms out of Harrismith, turn right  onto the R722 to Verkykerskop.
