General Dealer
Vendusiekrale
Old Mill House

Old Post Office

(now an Art Gallery)

The first dwelling on the farm was a “hartbeeshuisie” of over 120 years still standing on the farm today, while most of the homesteads that we have converted into tourist cottages date from the nineteen fourties.

The old mill is still standing today, being used as an antique shop.

The police outpost that was established at the beginning of the previous centuray to combat cattle theft was recently upgraded to a modern facility.

Only the foundations of the old Jewish general dealer can be seen today, but the old Blacksmith Shop was saved and is rented out as a cottage now.

The old “eenmanskooltjie” which has been standing empty since the fifties was recently renovated into a tourist cottage.

The “herehuis” now rented out as Afsluit Gastehuis served over the years in different roles including boarding house for the school, accommodation for the ladies of the telephone exchange and post office, and police commander residence.

One thing that Verkykerskop never got is a church, which is probably why the village never grew into an established town. Matt and Beth decided to put this historic line of events right and have already collected artifacts like a pulpit and bay windows from an old chapel, and in the near future, we will have our own old world chapel.

The auction pens are right in the village, with the Boeresaal and old post office next to it, now serving as an art gallery.

We have a modern agri-shop that was recently taken over by VKB from Afgri, where you can buy all your farming supplies and refuel.

The old general dealer was revived to its yesteryear glory and also houses a sportspub, a tea garden, an antique shop, and Smileys Restaurant.

One of the old farm sheds now serves as a carpentry workshop where we rebuild and restore old furniture, door and window frames, and make picture frames.

A number of the old “dorpshuisies” have been renovated for renting out as self catering units.

New buildings that we have added in line with the historic architecture include the Central Motel, the Skinderhoekie Coffee Shop & Deli, the Pik ‘n Wyn Wineshop, and the Slagskaap Butcher.
