Verkykerskop Development Consortium

Around 2004, a number of friends and business associates identified the unique potential installed in the rural village of Verkykerskop and its surrounds.

The ground breakers, Matt Hoffman and Beth Hillary, bought the general dealer, the old mill, and other small properties in and around the village. They established Verkykerskop Tourism CC in 2006 with the purpose to upgrade the existing facilities in the village and to develop Verkykerskop as a rural commercial node and tourist destination.

Inspired by Matt’s vision, Louis Grobler and his partners acquired the land around the village in 2005. They decided to establish the development company Verkykerskop Nedersetting Ontwikkeling (Edms) Bpk. / Verkykerskop Township Development (Pty) Ltd. to be used as vehicle for facilitating the development of the town and estate.

For lodging a joint single application for the subdivision and rezoning of all the land and the establishment of a new township on the land of the various owners, a developers consortium was formed between Verkykerskop Tourism CC, Verkykerskop Nedersetting Ontwikkeling (Pty) Ltd., the Verkykerskop Boerevereniging, and a few other land owners.

In addition to the village itself, an area of 850 hectares of farmland surrounding it is included in the development master plan.

The Rural Spatial Development Framework was approved by the Phumelela Local Municipality early in 2010, and the township establishment is now in process.
